BORLEY, ESSEX
Reputedly the site of the most haunted house
in England. Borley Rectory had so many different phenomena that investigator Harry Price made it almost a lifelong study -
even renting the vacant property for a whole year just to record the events that were going on at the time. The Rectory
manifestations were numerous, but the main visitations were by the famous Borley nun, as she made her regular walk along vanished
paths, floors etc... The building burnt down - some say figures were seen at its windows during the blaze - and the site
was eventually demolished. But something at Borley stayed on... Focus now seems to centre on the church, just across the
road from the old Rectory site. The nun has been seen here, plus various other phenomena like dark shapes, ghostly organ music
from inside the locked building and "Angel-hair", a sort of wispy, ectoplasmic residue which lasts mere minutes before disappearing. Many
claim Borley to have given its last performance years ago and that activity here is minimal, and that the hostility of the
locals hinders ghosthunting - but we believe that there is some life left in the afterlife here
NB: Please note that the locals are very anti-ghost and
do their best to stop anyone from holding night vigils here, even blocking the small car park near the church with a chain
across the entrance! Please be aware that the church tower has a very bright security light with a motion detector fitted.

THE BORLEY EXPERIENCE
INDOOR
VIGIL GHT - which at this time comprised of just Colin and Andy, ventured
out to Borley since its reputation as a haunted site might afford at least some evidence on film. Initailly the team set up
in the car park, but after watching several people actually enter the church, Colin found out a service was taking place.
Not wanting to miss the oppertunity of gaining access to the church interior, Colin and Andy joined in with the service and
were able afterwards to take some pictures. Colin thought he had the feeling of someone watching or standing in the west tower area
during the service. Nothing showed up on video film. However, the Waldegrave Tomb did produce an orb - even if
it didn`t show up right away as we thought it was camera flash reflection! Closer inspection revealed that a faint orb had
appeared on one of the supporting pillars of the tombs canopy.
Another orb quite clearly settled on or near to the altar rail, which
can be seen still behind it. This orb later moved further on.
We took some pictures that clearly show the same orb has MOVED from
the altar rail to nearly half-way up the wall!!! Our two pictures were taken only 5 minutes apart, and although from
a slightly different angle, still shows this orb, which can only be the same one as the last picture... This proves that
the orb was in motion. This could be a dust particle, however its motion was upwards which isn`t normal as even dust has to
follow the laws of gravity. And we can discount flies, moths etc - as you rarely get these in Feb!!!
After the pictures were taking, Colin and Andy showed the evidence to the
Vicar and the churchwarden. These previously friendly people suddenly turned very negative and gave both GHT members
the distinct impression that they were no longer welcome.
As a site, Borley may have been "done to death" by various ghosthunters over
the years. This has tarnished its paranormal reputation and made the locals very bitter towards anyone trying to hold a vigil
here. Our reccomendation is: DON`T GO - You will proberly
be better going to Pluckley, where the reception is better, the orbs more frequent and there`s a pub thats open!!!

CHURCH AND NUN
We believe (unless anyone knows differently) that Borley church remains
to this day as "undedicated", therefore its not referred to as St. Mary`s or Holy Trinity, or anything like that. Why is this???? This
northside view (main picture above) sometimes produces a phenomena in the form of a ribbon-like bow in mid-air!!! Quite what
this means and why it appears, no-one seems to know... Another reported phenomena is a substance called "Angel Hair"
which supposedly appeared to a group visiting the church in the early 90`s. This ectoplasmic residue disappears quickly and
therefore was not recorded on film or video by the group, but the whole group signed a statement to verify they had witnessed
it. Borley`s Nun walks the churchyard and some believe her haunting of the church to be linked with the Rectory disturbances,
however our research cannot find any evidence that Borley church was part of a religious cell and therefore the idea that
she is linked to the building is a little tenuious...
This is the view from the main pathway approaching the church. High up on
the tower is a spotlight - we believe not only there to aid against break-ins, but also to keep us ghosthunters away from
the building at night. We have seen this light in action, and its quite powerful. It shines down into the area near the porchway.
You can just make out the light as a white dot in the belfry opening.
